With body shaming always on our minds we are overlooking the fact that there is beauty in our imperfections. We are compelled to look the way the world wants to perceive us and physical appearance here means the most. Be it a weight issue or skin color we all want to achieve “Vogue-worthy” perfection, otherwise we can fall prey to obnoxious body shaming comments. We consistently fail to realize that when it comes to our bodies, the svelte frames gracing the magazine cover is no necessary precedent.
Social media platforms are now being advised to handle online body shaming so that you can be ‘you’ at all times without fear of being harassed.
Not only does body shaming make you get overboard to perfect the way you look, it dents your confidence and people tend to suffer from mental health issues and identity crisis. Its high time and social media organizations should do something to restrict this distressing problem that has shattered lives.
Online sites: Do they cater to positive experiences?
Irrespective of the site you are browsing online sites were made to entertain and impart knowledge to the people. If Facebook, Instagram and others are now being eyed as body shaming platforms then something needs to be done fast. BBC news reported that more than few young people were having to deal with online exploitation.
The malice in the comments made online
Cyberbullying is a concern today and online malevolent remarks perturb mental health of many. There needs to be a system to control body shaming comments that are being made online on a regular basis. Alongside common herd even celebrities belonging to esteemed social classes have to go through this and reportedly encounter psychological stress.
Put an end to the pseudo perfect look
Photo shopping images and displaying them on social media is detrimental as we believe them to be true but in point of fact they are far from reality. There is nothing bad about being different and beauty is more than dimensions and skin tone. Feeling of inadequacy brings upon a sense of failure, pitiful is the situation where people are put on the spot to please this image conscious world.
Supervision of the content posted online
Supervising the content not only looks into the elimination of cyberbullying but also it ensures promotion of positive content. Filters and blocking can be imbibed to endow the most surfed sites with checks. Negative life hacking remarks need to be removed before getting published.
Internet these days are more and more available to the masses and is helpful beyond words but the downsides of this blessing can leave you feeling devastated. Body shaming– a dark side of virtual media can harm you in more ways than one can envisage. Socially constructed ideas of beauty are getting us to hate ourselves and distorting our mirror reflections. We need to realize that being beautiful is not by following fads– rather it is being comfortable in one’s own skin. The creator made us different for a reason and we are at war in replicating others. Time to think!
Be natural, be you!
